My colleagueâs father recently got infected with the coronavirus and had to be rushed to the hospital. The move was abrupt and hectic, and left no time for any deep conversation with his wife and family as he was being taken out to the ambulance.

Rose and Brad have enjoyed high-paying professional careers in the oil and gas industry, helping them to amass more wealth than they need for their lifestyle. Together, they earn about $500,000 a year before tax.
Brad, 60, likes what he does and plans to keep working to age 70. Rose, faced with the prospect of an alluring buyout package, is tempted to take it even though she’s only 48. She wonders to what extent the income she forgoes will be offset by lower income tax in the years ahead.
They have two teenage children, a mortgage-free house in the Calgary area, an investment property and substantial savings.
To the Editor: Andrew Bary’s comprehensive, balanced article, “Best Income Investments for 2021” (Cover Story, Jan. 1), spotlights the potential for electric utilities. I concur. Utilities are essential for everyone; they generate earnings 24/7, and if you don’t pay the bill, your power is cut off. The reinvested yield from that underappreciated sector justifies holding those stocks for the long term.

To the Editor: Enterprise Products Partners is best of breed and proved its superior management, business model, and resilience back in March and April, when it had no problem remaining solvent and maintaining its dividend, and was able to go to issue debt as a safety valve that the market priced at a very low yield.
